Welcome to the City of Eureka Springs!

We invite you to browse through our local government website and learn more about our award-winning city. It takes all of our departments to make this City of the First Class an Extraordinary Escape. Through our many citizens, employees and volunteers the city's accomplishments are numerous

Eureka Springs is a nationally recognized arts destination -- with many art galleries, art studios, and art events. Eureka Springs has been awarded "TOP 25 ART TOWNS IN AMERICA" honor by the American Style Magazine for the past 4 years. We also have a broad range of non-profit arts organizations such as Eureka Springs School of the Arts, Writers' Colony at Dairy Hollow, Main Stage Creative Community Center, new Shakespeare in the Ozarks, Enthios Dance Center and the venerable Opera in the Ozarks (60 years!).

Historic preservation is important to us. The City of Eureka Springs was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and re-listed as Nationally Significant in 2004. We were the first Preserve America Community in Arkansas. Eureka Springs was honored as one of America's Dozen Distinctive Destinations by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. We are a Downtown Network member of Main Street Arkansas and a Certified Local Government through the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program.

Another asset of Eureka Springs is our natural surroundings. Our community is built on a picturesque moutainsides. We have 60+ natural springs, three lakes and over 1800 acres of city park land. Lake Leatherwood Park is 1600 acres with an 85-acre spring-fed lake formed by one of the largest hand-cut limestone dams in the United States. Also it is home to the Eastern Collard Lizard--the only place in Arkansas. We have numerous venues for our Eco-Tourism visitors; hiking, biking, paddle boats, swimming, birding, backpacking, mountain biking and geocaching. Beaver and Table Rock Lakes are close, as are the White, Kings and Buffalo Rivers. The city believes deeply in protecting our envirnoment. Our mayor is one of four in Arkansas who signed the 2007 the United States Climate Protection Agreement. Many of our residents have taken on the responsbility of greening." Eureka Springs was awarded the "SHINE" award from Keep Arkansas Beautiful in 2008. We are also the oldest Tree City USA in Arkansas -- since 1982!

Our public transit system is notable for a city of this size with extensive routes for both residents and visitors. The narrated Tram Tours are a good way to learn our history and get a feel for the unusual street system. The best way to get to know Eureka Springs is up-close. Please enjoy our in-town walking trails. There are no "bad neighborhoods" here and the mountains present a different landscape with each season. We have attractions for all interests in the city limits and more nearby.

Eureka Springs is a great place to visit and a wonderful place to live -- welcome!!
