SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING 297
TUESDAY,
AUGUST 5, 1997, 7 P.m.
The Mayor
asked Chief Hyatt to come up and explain the need for overtime for some
officers, which she had authorized.
The Chief
said that he had authorized 65 1/2 hours of overtime at a cost of $1052.39 over
the course of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. He said due to the rash of
vandalism, and burglaries, once they get a lead, they need to run with it. He
said he will still need some limited overtime for the Jazz Festival, but that
he had a cushion in the budget and he wasn’t overdrawn yet. He said that the overtime
costs resulted in 5 arrests, with the Auditorium burglary solved. The arrests
were all juveniles who seemed to run together in the same group.
Alderman
Jeffrey made the motion to approve overtime as needed. Alderwoman Dickens
seconded. All were in favor, by roll call, 6/0/0.
Alderman
Freeland asked if the Chief will be short handed with some of the officers
going to school and vacations and everything. The Chief said that everything
would be covered barring sickness or injury.
The
motion was made and seconded to adjourn. All were in favor, 6/0/0.
