CITY COUNCIL
SPECIAL MEETING WEDNESDAY AUGUST 23, 2006
PRESENT: Mayor Kathy Harrison, Aldermen Robert “Butch” Berry, Beverly Blankenship, Terry McClung, Rick Rojek, Lori Weaver and City Clerk-Treasurer Mary Jean Sell. Alderman Penny Carroll and City Attorney Tim Weaver were absent.
The purpose of the special meeting was to consider the purchase of a vehicle for the Building Department.
Mayor Harrison and Building Official Marion Chrysler said the pick up truck Ms. Chrysler is currently using is borrowed from the Public Works Department and has broken down four times in the past two weeks. The air conditioning system, which is tied into the alternator and other systems, is about to fail. The transmission has had recent repair work but needs more. It is no longer a reliable vehicle.
Ms. Chrysler has found a new pick up truck from an agency in Bentonville for $19,998.
There was general discussion about where to find the funds for a vehicle purchase; whether or not Ms. Chrysler could use her personal vehicle; and the merits of purchasing a used vehicle over a new vehicle.
Mr. McClung moved to postpone a decision until the regular meeting Monday, Aug. 28 and to ask Ms. Chrysler to continue her search for new and used vehicles that would be suitable. Mr. Rojek seconded. All voted aye. Motion passed 5/0/0
ADJOURNMENT:
Mr. McClung moved to adjourn at 6:37 p.m. Mr. Berry seconded. All voted aye. Motion passed 5/0/0
