ORDINANCE NO. 2087

 

AN ORDINANCE REFERRING TO THE VOTERS OF THE CITY OF

EUREKA SPRINGS, ARKANSAS THE QUESTION OF ELECTING MEMBERS OF

THE CITY COUNCIL TO FOUR YEAR STAGGERED TERMS BEGINNING WITH

THE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE FIRST TUESDAY AFTER THE

FIRST NOVEMBER IN THE YEAR 2010

 

 WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, has made

a comprehensive study and review of the benefits of electing members of council to four

year terms,

 

            WHEREAS, Arkansas Code Annotated 14-43-312 requires the City Council to

refer the question to the voters of the City,

 

 NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE

CITY OF EURKEA SPRINGS, ARKANSAS, THAT:

 

Section 1. That as required by Arkansas Code Annotated 14-43-312, the City

Council of Eureka Springs, AR hereby refers to the voters of the City of Eureka Springs,

AR, the question for their approval of electing council members for staggered four year

terms at next general election after passage and approval of this ordinance by the voters

of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, in the following manner:

(a) with Position 1 of each ward being elected to a four (4) year term in the 2010 General election and a like four (4) year term every four years thereafter at that year’s General Election; and,

(b) with position 2 of each ward being elected to a two (2) year term in the 2010 general election and a four (4) year term every four years thereafter at that year’s General Election.

 

Section 2. Repeal Clause: All Ordinances, Resolutions, and parts thereof, in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
